The Kelowna Rockets concluded their eight-game road trip with a 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday, March 7.

A long 8-game road trip finally came to an end for the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, March 7 as they lost to the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-3.

With the loss, the Rockets went 1-7-0-0 on the road trip and have lost 22 of their last 23 games.

Kelowna got off to a great start on Friday as Dawson Gerwing scored his 14th of the season, unassisted, just 57 seconds into the game.

Nearly seven minutes later, Roan Woodward potted a powerplay goal to knot the game once again.

At the 11:04 mark of the frame, Jack Toogood gave Edmonton their first lead of the contest when he scored his fifth goal of the campaign. That lead was short lived as the Rockets came back with a good response. Just 71 seconds later, Jakub Stancl reached the 20-goal mark, assisted by Levi Benson and Kalder Varga.

Less than two minutes after that, Kanjyu Gojsic regained the lead for Kelowna with his seventh of the year, assisted by Stancl.

However that wasn't enough for a wild first period as with exactly a minute to go, Landon Hanson scored on the man-advantage, his 15th goal on the season.

Jake Pilon weathered the storm in the first period as Edmonton fired 19 shots on him in the frame alone.

After a scoreless second period, the Oil Kings took over the third, starting with Gracyn Sawchyn scoring his 29th goal of the season and Edmonton's third powerplay goal on the night to take the lead 3:24 into the stanza.

Woodward would add an insurance goal about halfway through the period and then an empty-netter late to complete the hat-trick and a 6-3 win for Edmonton.

Pilon made 32 saves in the loss. Newly signed Rockets prospect Gabriel O'Brien made his WHL debut.

The Rockets are now 17-40-4-2 on the season with five games to go. Kelowna returns home to Prospera Place where they welcome the 22-34-4-1 Kamloops Blazers to town on Friday, March 14. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
