The Kelowna Rockets had a tough weekend, falling 3-1 to the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday (Dec. 28) night at home and then dropping a 3-1 decision to the Vancouver Giants on Sunday.
Rookie Kalder Varga opened the scoring on Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd at Prospera Place, while goaltender Jake Pilon stood tall with 45 saves in the loss. Sunday香蕉视频直播檚 road matchup against the Giants saw captain Max Graham notch the lone goal for the Rockets, with Rhett Stoesser making 24 saves.
Rockets vs. Blazers
Just six minutes into the game, Kelowna香蕉视频直播檚 Kayden Longley stole the puck from a Blazers defenceman and set up 16-year-old rookie Kalder Varga in front of the net as he scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead.
The score held up until the third period with Kamloops tied the game a the seven minute mark on a powerplay goal by Nathan Behm (19). The Blazers capitalized again with less than five minutes remaining as John Szabo scored his sixth of the season, also on the power play. Szabo (7) added an empty-net goal for the 3-1 Kamloops win.
Kelowna was outshot 48-26 and went 0-2 on the powerplay.
Rockets vs. Giants
The Rockets struggled to find their rhythm on Sunday in Langley. Calgary Flames prospect Jaden Lipinski (4) opened the scoring for the Giants with a power-play goal just 2:57 into the game. Kelowna captain Max Graham (11) responded with a power-play goal, tying the game 1-1 before the end of the first period.
The Giants regained the lead midway through the second period when Ty Halaburda (10) scored shorthanded on a two-on-one. Halaburda (11) later sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the third for a 3-1 Vancouver win.
The Rockets were outshot 27-23 and went 1-4 on the powerplay.
Kelowna travels to Washington State for a New Year香蕉视频直播檚 Eve clash against the Wenatchee Wild. They香蕉视频直播檒l face the Blazers again on Jan. 3 in Kamloops before returning home on Jan. 4th to host the Giants.
