The Kelowna Chiefs secured a 5-4 shootout win over the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Sunday (Jan. 5) night at Rutland Arena.
The KIJHL leading Grizzlies struck first just over three minutes into the game when Jacob Smith notched his 10th goal of the season. Kelowna responded quickly as Aiden Morcom tied the game 1-1 at the five-minute mark with his ninth of the year. Revelstoke regained the lead before the period ended, with Colton McLeod (15) scoring to make it 2-1.
Early in the second period, the Grizzlies extended their lead to 3-1 on a goal by Keiran Keilly (14). The Chiefs clawed their way back midway through the frame when Matt Fraser buried his seventh goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Keilly struck again later in the period, netting his second goal of the night to restore Revelstoke香蕉视频直播檚 two-goal advantage at 4-2. The Grizzlies appeared to be in control until early in the third period when Kelowna mounted a comeback.
Fraser (8) scored his second of the game just under four minutes into the third period, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Only 19 seconds later, Jack Libin completed the rally with the equalizer, and his first of the season, tying the game at 4-4.
Neither team could find the back of the net during the remainder of regulation or overtime, sending the game to a shootout. In the shootout, Owen Miller scored the lone goal for Kelowna, while Michael Makowsky denied all three Revelstoke shooters in the 5-4 win.
The Chiefs will look to build on the win when they host the Osoyoos Coyotes at Rutland Arena on Friday, Jan. 10.
