In familiar surroundings, two Kelowna teams more than held their own at the 2016 B.C. U14 C girls fastball championship at High Noon Park.

The Kelowna Flames won silver, while the host Blue Jays captured bronze as Kelowna was home to a provincial tournament for the first time in 10 years.

Kelowna's teams met head on in the semifinals on Sunday, with the Flames prevailing 4-1. The game featured solid pitching and defense, some timely hits, and a fantastic catch at the fence saving a possible home run.

The Flames went to play in Sunday's gold medal final, losing a hard fought game to the Mission Bulldogs.

The Blue Jays finished third, to give Kelowna two of the top placings in B.C.

With 16 teams competing, there were more than 50 games played over three days at High Noon.

The opening ceremonies were held Friday with a parade of teams, a welcome from Kelowna-Lake Country MLA  and the ceremonial first pitch by the West Kelowna Warriors.

The Kelowna Minor Fastball Society has more than 200 girls playing on 13 teams from six to 19 years of age, along with three reps teams which compete all across the province.
