A look at Kelowna's Brier debut in 1968

The Montana's Brier was held at the Memorial Arena from Mar. 4-8, 1968

The Montana's Brier is in Kelowna for the second time ever, seeing teams compete at Prospera Place from Feb. 28 to Mar. 9.

The event was first brought to the city in 1968 under Brier General Chairman Harold Long. 香蕉视频直播 did extensive coverage of the games.

Athletes were greeted in the city on Friday, Mar. 1 "complete with torches, cheer leaders, a pipe band and a large crowd of Kelowna enthusiasts who stayed up to 1:30 a.m. to extend a warm welcome."

At the time, Kelowna was said to be the smallest city to have ever hosted the event, which officially ran Mar. 4-8 at the Kelowna and District Memorial Arena.

Each team in the '68 Brier was featured in the Capital News paper on Mar. 6. Details of rink dimensions and curling etiquette, welcome poems written by locals, and a score sheet for Briers from 1927 to 1967 were all included in coverage of the games.

Ontario politician and president of the International Curling Federation at the time Colin Campbell threw the first stone to start the tournament.

The games came to an end on Mar. 8 and Capital News congratulated the winning Alberta team under Calgary's Ron Northcott in the Mar. 13 publication.
