To the editor:
Where are all the homeless people coming from?
As a Kelowna taxpayer, I accept as a civic responsibility that a portion of my municipal tax dollar is going to assist residents who were born here or who have worked here, contributing to the local economy, but who have fallen on hard times and now require assistance.
There is another group of more recent arrivals who have come here from other cities or provinces and who have contributed nothing to the Okanagan. With the prospect of free accommodation in nice new buildings provided by B.C. Housing where they can shoot up on drugs, it is no wonder that Kelowna is becoming a destination for homeless people.
Just asking, but is it the responsibility of Kelowna taxpayers to support this latter group, other than giving them a one-way ticket back to their home town?
