To the editor:
To paraphrase an unknown author, volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. When we volunteer, we vote for the kind of community and country we want to live in.
For National Volunteer Week (April 23 Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ 29), we salute the volunteers who change the face of their communities and strengthen the fabric of Canada.
And for those volunteers who have chosen to make a difference in the fight against cancer, we have a very special thank you.
With your help, the cancer survival rate has increased from 25 per cent in the 1940s to over 60 per cent today. We are investing in the best cancer research projects across the country, providing trusted cancer information and compassionate support services for people facing cancer and their families, and leading cancer prevention and advocacy initiatives for the benefit of all Canadians.
We could not do this work without you - thank you so much.
