To the editor:
It is astonishing to watch the federal Liberals demonstrate, despite their pre-election and Paris climate conference promises to the contrary, their lack of real commitment to tackling climate change. Last week we read about how our Prime Minister received a standing ovation from fossil fuel interests gathered in Texas and with his approval of numerous pipelines and a 2017 budget allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars to the fossil fuel industry, itÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s no wonder.
Subsidizing the fossil fuel industry undermines actions being taken to fight climate change, including many initiatives supported in the same budget and makes the pre-election promises made by the Liberal government meaningless.
It is clear that it is possible to build a clean economy that will create long term prosperity and help us to meet our commitments to doing our part on climate change. ItÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s time for us to demand that our federal government put an end to fossil fuel subsidies once and for all.
