We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother Rita Eloise Janice Henry. She passed on January 17 2020 in Vernon, B.C. Rita was born near Fife Lake Saskatchewan on January 23, 1937.
Her family moved to Trail BC when she was 6 years old, where she grew up and got married to Dave Henry. She raised her 3 daughters in Montrose, BC and spent most summers in those early years having fun and playing at their cabin at Christina Lake. Rita loved to travel whether it was exploring local environs or international jet setting. She was an avid crafter and an accomplished seamstress, she loved trying new recipes, entertaining and hosting family gatherings. She had a passion for theatre and it wasn't uncommon for her to travel to NYC for a week of Broadway productions.
Mom was also generous with her time, volunteering with many organizations including the ladies auxiliaries for the Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Army & Navy and also volunteered at the Schubert Centre.
She is survived by her daughters Terry-Jo Henry (Brad) and Kelly McPherson (Brian) children and grandchildren Jeremy McPherson (Justine), David McPherson, Amanda Reid (Tyler) And she was fortunate to enjoy 5 Great Grandchildren Benn (5), Violet 1.5 and Austin 2.5 McPherson and Aria (3) and Emelia (1.5) and many nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her sister Judy Bourne, mother Winnie Jerome, husband Dave Henry and daughter Suzanne Sacken (Jim Carr).
Rita was a long-time volunteer at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Endowment Foundation, 2101 - 32nd St, Vernon, BC V1T 9Z9.
A memorial tea/open house will be held at FOE #3557 Eagles Hall, 5101 25th Avenue, Vernon, BC 1:30 pm Sunday, February 16, 2020.
