June 26, 1922 - October 18, 2021
Richard (Dick) Hubert Bazett passed away peacefully on October 18, 2021 in Kelowna at the age of 99. Dick is survived by his son Robert (Debbie) of Kelowna, daughter Wendy (Lyn) of Ulladulla, Australia, grandsons David (Axelle), Chris (Andrea), and Brian (Lindsay), as well as great-grandsons Mattias, Nicolas and Landon. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 2014.
Born in Koksilah, British Columbia on June 26, 1922, Dick spent his youth in the Duncan area on Vancouver Island. Following his service during the Second World War, he studied in Vancouver at UBC, earning an Agriculture degree.
After working in the Lower Mainland for several years, in 1960 he moved his young family to establish new roots in Kelowna, where he served as the BC Branch Manager for the Farm Credit Corporation until his retirement. He was a very well-liked and social member of his Kelowna Mission neighbourhood and his recent condo community.
Dick was an avid gardener and a renowned lily hybridizer, a passion that saw him travel to various parts of the world, attending, competing and presenting at conferences. His legacy will continue through the lilies blooming far and wide in many friend, family and community gardens.
We will miss the patriarch of our family for his wisdom, guidance, humour, indomitable spirit and love of life. He encapsulated being young at heart. We celebrate his life, which he lived to the fullest by living independently, keeping active and enjoying time spent with friends and family.
