We are sad to announce the passing of Mike Skitcko on March 27, 2022, in Kelowna, BC, while surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Saskatchewan in 1927, Mike came to Kitimat as a pioneer in December of 1953, before the town of Kitimat was completed. Mike raised his family, was active in the community, became an avid fisherman and enjoyed many other outdoor pursuits. For 31 years Mike was employed with the Alcan Aluminum Smelter and retired in the summer of 1985.
Mike spent the first part of his retirement at his Lakelse Lake home with good friends, family, and of course, his ever growing garden. Later Mike moved to the Okanagan where he continued to enjoy gardening, skiing and the good life.
Mike was a strong man,a loyal friend, a wonderful father and husband and wherever he lived, his gardens brought a bounty of joy to friends and neighbours.
He was predeceased by brother John and survived by siblings Mary, Anne, Rose and Joseph.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife Fran and sons Barry (Michelle) and Gerry (Heli) and grandchildren Aila, Julia,Kaelin,Kyle and Kassidy.
A celebration of life will follow in the summer.
