December 20, 1946 - March 26, 2021
Greg passed away peacefully on Friday March 26, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson's and latterly Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on December 20, 1946 to Joe and Eileen Neid of East Kelowna.
Growing up in Kelowna, Greg's feet were in skates and on skis at an early age. He developed his passion for hockey in the backyard rinks and perfected his skills on the slopes the nearby McCulloch hills and at Big White.
His love for sports went beyond his own talent or the pro teams; Greg was a passionate supporter of local and youth sports and was recognized for his 25+ years of volunteering with the Surrey Eagles. He also developed a lifelong love of gardening and landscaping while working under the guidance of his father in the family orchard.
Greg moved to Nanaimo in 1969 to further his education and to pursue a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator. There he met his wife, Laura and they married in 1972. They moved to the lower mainland in the 1980s and built a home in White Rock - where they have lived happily since.
Greg will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Laura, his sister Jill Buckley, his sisters-in-law Ann Schwartz (Steven), Nancy Lyle (Fraser), his nieces and nephews, Robin, Laura, Chantelle, Justin, Jennifer (Mark), Sean (Leena), Scott and his many cousins in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Washington state.
There will be no memorial virtual or otherwise at this time because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Research of British Columbia are appreciated (parkinson.bc.ca).
