January 22, 1929 - March 7, 2021
John Luczi passed peacefully in Kelowna on March 7, 2021 at the age of 92, with his wife Helen (Ilona) by his side. John is predeceased by his parents and sister in Hungary, and numerous relatives, including his uncle Steve, and cousins Les, Jeno, and Ida here in Canada.
John emigrated to Canada in 1957 with his wife and young son Paul. They spent a few months on a farm near Saskatoon, and then settled in Regina where John spent many years in construction as a respected home builder. He retired to West Kelowna in 1997.
John was an active member of the Hungarian community and instilled a love of his heritage in his family. He had a beautiful singing voice and was always entertaining us with his rendition of Hungarian songs. He was an avid wine maker and continued this tradition to the end. In his retirement, John took up beekeeping, and enjoyed his beautiful garden and trees in the Okanagan.
John is survived by his loving wife Helen, sons Paul (Jane) and John (Kari), and daughters Kathy (Greg) and Susan (Rick); as well as his grandchildren Cameron (Hana), Cara, Matthew (Jenna), Zenon, Marika, Johnny, and Reilly.
John will be laid to rest in Kelowna on March 12 with his immediate family in attendance. We hope to have a celebration of his amazing life later in the year.
