In loving memory ~
With broken hearts, we would like to share that on March 29th, 2023, Janet Ruth Omelchuk passed away in her sleep. Her last few days were filled with happiness having just moved to Kelowna to be closer to her family. On the night she left us we were so lucky to have been able to give her a hug and a kiss and wish her good night.
Mom's forever home was Vernon, B.C., where she resided for over fifty years. She was a familiar face to many having worked at the Hudson's Bay, Zellers, Eatons, Shoppers Drug Mart, and her favourite, Davison Orchards. Every time we went somewhere she ran into someone she knew.
Describing Mom comes easy. She was smart, fiercely independent, selfless, and resilient beyond measure. Above all, however, she was a caregiver, which she did with love. Her laugh carried across the room, and often down the hall and into the next room. We will keep listening. It will be in the birds as they sing and in the wind as it blows.
Born on March 16th, 1941, in Minnedosa, Manitoba, Mom was predeceased by her parents Jim and Kay Free and her husband John Omelchuk. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her children Karen Omelchuk and Kevin Kerstens, Curtis Omelchuk, and Kristi Wareham; her grandchildren Harper John, Paisley Kathleen, and Kaitlyn Jane, as well as extended family and many friends.
Mom's favourite flowers were lilacs.
A service is scheduled for later this spring when they will be in bloom. All are invited to join us on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kal Lake Cafe at Okanagan College in Vernon to celebrate Mom and say one final farewell.
