In loving memory ~
With great sorrow, we announce the sudden passing on a camping trip of our dear Jim at the age of 80. Jim was born in 1944 and raised, along with now deceased sister Margaret, in Grand Prairie, Alberta, by his parents Carman and Jean. He leaves his wife Anne three days short of their 58th wedding anniversary.
Jim entered a Bachelor of Science program in chemistry in 1962 at the University of Alberta and was hired in 1966 by the oilfield service company Schlumberger. His personal charm and intense dedication led to an outstanding 32-year career. In 1998 he retired and supervised the building of their dream home in the Okanagan valley.
Never content to rest easy, his attention turned to rural political issues and regional district governance challenges, resulting in his election in 2007 as the inaugural director of the Central Okanagan West Rural Area. He retained this position through two further elections until stepping down in 2014. Jim also remained very active in politics at the provincial and federal levels.
Jim was who he was because of his deep Christian faith, which he shared with Anne. Both were active in the many spiritual and civic outreaches of Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna.
Jim loved the outdoors, camping and many lazy days fishing on their boat on Shuswap Lake. He actually loved driving and was always looking for a new road adventure. The Westside Road hills and curves never bothered him.
Jim and Anne have two children, Gail (Richard) and Peter (Jennifer). He is greatly missed by his children and four grandchildren: Brittany (Carlo) and their children Brianna and Damon, Meghan (Ravinder), Owen and Jonathan.
Cremation arrangements were made with Pleasant Valley Funeral in Vernon. There will be a celebration of Jim's life at Trinity Church in Kelowna 1905 Springfield Road at 11:00 AM on August 17.
