In loving memory ~
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Heinrich Ulmer announce his passing on January 14, 2025, at the age of 98 years. Henry, as he was known to many, was predeceased by his wife Anna, his parents Johann and Frieda, and his brothers Hans Artur and Siegfried.
He leaves behind to grieve their immense loss his children Monica (Hal), Harry (Dan), Doris (Rob) and Barbara. Also left to carry his memory are his grandchildren Matthew (Jenna), Brendan (Rachel), Joseph (Brittany), Stephen (Jasmine), Joshua, Samuel, and Emma, and his great-grandchildren Cassie, Edwyn, Delilah, Parker and Mirleigha. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Brigitte and Gertrude, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Henry will forever be remembered for his love of life and sense of humour. As long-time residents of Kelowna, BC, Henry and Anna loved to get together with friends, whether at the lake fishing and camping, in the backyard over a coffee or a beer, or at the clubhouse of the German Canadian Harmonie Club in Kelowna. Henry gave freely of his time and effort toward the success of the Club. He was one of the contractors that built the clubhouse and served on the Board in varying capacities including a stint as the Club President. He and Anna loved to dance and socialize and were regulars at the Club dances, picnics, card nights and other events. Henry loved to joke around and laughed the hardest at his own jokes, however corny.
Henry was an independent contractor in Kelowna for 30+ years and framed many homes in the area, including two for his own family. He also loved to tinker on his motorhome or putter in his garage and there didn't seem to be anything that Henry couldn't fix. Later in life Henry discovered gardening and was especially proud of his tomatoes, cucumbers and grapes.
After Anna's passing in 2022, Henry moved to Calgary to be closer to his children. He lived at Chartwell Colonel Belcher for two years and enjoyed many opportunities for walks and social get-togethers with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He moved to Bow View Manor in September 2024 when he could no longer live independently.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Chartwell Colonel Belcher for their kindness to Henry during his residency there and would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Bow View Manor who were all so caring and supportive to Henry in his last months of life.
A celebration of Henry's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 23 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 66 - 7 Street NE, Calgary. Internment will take place at 1:00 on Monday, January 27 at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
