In the interest of public safety, the City of West Kelowna has closed several parks due to the extreme fire threat.
After several days with an extreme fire hazard rating and very dry conditions, the following community parks will be closed to the public until further notice:
Mt. Boucherie Trails Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ including Boucherie Rush and Boucherie Grind
Eain Lamont Park Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Lakeview Cove Road
Rose Valley Trail access Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ McDougall Road
Casa Palmero Park and Walkway Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Casa Palmero Drive
Davidson Creek Park - Shannon Woods Drive
Shannon Way Park Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Shannon Way
Rock Ridge Park Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Griffiths Place
Wild Horse Park Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Wild Horse Drive
Open burning, including campfires and in backyard fire pits, are not allowed anywhere within the City of West Kelowna, according to a city release.
If you see smoke or observe an illegal campfire in a forested area, call 911 immediately. If you observe people accessing these closed parks, call West Kelowna Bylaw Enforcement at 778-797-8810. People observed disobeying these regulations will be fined. Fines can be as much as $500.
Representatives from fire and parks departments from Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland and the Regional District of Central Okanagan met to determine the criteria for when parks will be closed.
