The South Okanagan Similkameen Pride Society is marking the international Transgender Day of Remembrance today, Monday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at Penticton City Hall.

Everyone is welcome to meet at city hall for the candlelight vigil and walk.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance on Nov. 20 that honours the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Vigils are being held across the Okanagan.

The Day of Remembrance aims to draw attention to the rise in anti-2SLGBTQI and anti-trans hate and the violence and discrimination that continue to impact trans people in Canada and around the world.

The event follows after last week, which was Trans Awareness Week (Nov. 13-19).
