The Larch Hills Nordic Society announced on Jan. 15 (2025) that tobogganing is no longer allowed at the Larch Hills ski area.

If heading to Larch Hills for some winter activity, pack your cross-country skis and/or snowshoes but leave the toboggans at home.

The Larch Hills Nordic Society (LHNS) announced Wednesday, Jan. 15, that tobogganing is no permitted. The decision to prohibit tobogganing/sledding comes after "multiple incidents involving injuries in recent weeks."

"We are aware tobogganing is a fun winter activity and risky play should be encouraged in children," reads a post shared by LHNS on social media. "However our trails and the stadium areas are not properly set up for tobogganing/sledding. We have heavy machinery and skiers crossing through at any time of the day, as well as natural obstacles (trees, rocks,...), posing severe hazards.

LHNS also has not tobogganing agreement with the Recreation Sites and Trails BC.

"Please leave your toboggans and sleds at home," said LHNS. "The safety of people on our trail system is our utmost priority."
