This Wednesday, Nov. 9, students, faculty and staff at UBC Okanagan take a moment to remember CanadaÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s fallen soldiers at a Remembrance Day service. This year the colour party from KelownaÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, will be on hand to mark the event.
The university invites neighbouring schools, local residents and the entire campus community to honour CanadaÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s soldiers at the service. The ceremony is a combination of traditions from UBC and members of the local Canadian Legion.
An UBCO employee who is a veteran, will speak briefly about the importance of Remembrance Day, along with other administrators and students. Along with the reading of In Flanders Fields and the singing of O Canada, there will be the traditional two minutes of silence, a bugle reveille and bagpipe lament.
After the formal service, all are welcome to a reception in the Arts Building foyer. The reception provides a chance for the university community to mingle with the veterans and Legion members.
The service will be held in the UBC Okanagan campus courtyard, starting at 10:45 a.m.
Pay parking is available on campus.
