Tanya Ferguson Durack wants to identify the driver of this white pickup truck, captured on security camera as it allegedly drove over her dog Nutella without stopping, in front of her Skimikin Lake Road residence on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Tanya Ferguson Durack is mourning the loss of her family's dog after it was struck by a vehicle on the road in front of their Shuswap home.

"I just feel so awful. Who could do that?," said Durack, deeply upset by the loss of Nutella, her family's four-and-a-half month old rottweiler. "What is wrong with people? We live together in this world why canÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™t we just love one another you know?"

The Skimikin Lake Road resident said she was out of town when the incident occurred at 12:07 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. She knows the exact time because the incident was witnessed by her husband and son, and recorded on a security camera. She has since been sharing images from the security footage on social media, in an effort to identify the driver of the vehicle Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ a newer white four-door short-box Toyota Tundra pickup truck with tinted windows and black rims Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ which she alleges did not slow down or even stop after hitting her dog.

"It hit her and then he smashed into her, got her head, you can see it on the video in slow motion," said Durack. "And then she rolled under the truck and got caught on the back bumper or whatever, and then he dragged her down the road and finally she got let loose."

Durack claimed the truck was speeding when it hit her dog. At the time, her husband and son had been working on a gate to their property. She said the men ran after the truck, yelling and trying to get it to stop.

"I donÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™t want to be upset with them but they were working on the gate and they looked away for just a secondÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¦," said Durack. "She was just with them because she Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ sheÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s a puppy, sheÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s four and a half months, and she just loved being with themÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¦"

Durack has reported the incident to the Salmon Arm RCMP and on Thursday dropped a copy of the video footage off at the detachment. The file number is 2025-1559.

As much as she wishes to identify the driver, Durack would rather have Nutella back.

"To be honest, I wish I could just rewindÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¦I wish she was in the house or something," said Durack, stressing that Skimikin Lake Road is not a highway or a street, but a well-used country road.

"There are tractors on it, there are people working on it, there are farms and cattleguards and cattle and horses Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ people biking, kids playing," said Durack. "This driver didnÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™t even care about what he ran overÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¦ what if it was a child!"

The Observer has contacted the RCMP and will update this story as further information becomes available.
