Rise in thefts targeting secure parking lots: Penticton RCMP

There has been a noticeable rise in thefts targeting secure parking lots and storage facilities over the last few months, according to Penticton RCMP. 

Police issued a reminder in response to the reported incidents, urging residents to take extra precautions to safeguard their belongings.

"We understand that these incidents not only are a cause for concern for citizens and businesses but can also be quite costly due to the loss of valuable items and damage to property," said Const. Kelly Brett of the Penticton RCMP in a media release on Dec. 12.

"We are increasing patrols in high-risk areas and working closely with property owners to reduce these incidents. By working together and adopting preventative measures, we can minimize the risk of theft."

In its reminder to the public, RCMP said the incidents "underscore the need for heightened vigilance and proactive measures." 

Police also issued the following reminders:

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Lock and secure property;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Enhance security features (cameras, motion-sensitive lighting, alarm systems, etc.);

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Mark and record belongings;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Be vigilant and report suspicious activity;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Utilize secure storage options (storage facilities that offer comprehensive security measures)
