A suspected methamphetamine lab operating near Rock Creek has been shut down and dismantled following a RCMP investigation.
On March 1, members of the RCMP Federal Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) with the support of other RCMP Federal and Serious Organized Crime teams and regional detachments executed a search warrant on the rural property 34 kilometres east of Osoyoos, seizing a significant quantity of illicit drugs, numerous weapons and arresting two men.
While at the scene, investigators saw signs of the dumping of hazardous waste created during the production of illegal drugs and contacted the Emergency Management B.C. to advise them of the potential health impacts and environmental damage. As a precautionary measure a three kilometre do not use radius has been established around the site by Interior Health. The RCMP continues to work with the Ministry of Environment and other parties to expedite water sampling and share information about this incident with the public.
