Police are investigating after a threat was directed at A.L. Fortune Secondary School in Enderby.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP learned of the threat around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11. Police liaised with the school's principal and identified what is believed to be a possible source of the threat. 

"As a precaution, police were available at the school Thursday morning to monitor the situation and assist school staff with additional security measures," Cpl. Tania Finn, media relations officer, said in a media release late Thursday morning. 

A member at the school told The Morning Star that police were checking bags at the front door of the school Thursday morning, and all other doors were blocked off. The source said staff were told that a note was found in a washroom threatening that "something" would be carried out on Thursday's date. 

A letter to parents from principal Mark Marino states the threat is of "unknown credibility," but the situation is being taken seriously by police. 

Aside from the bag check and blocked doors, school is operating as usual, according to the letter. 

"The safety of students and staff remains our top priority. If you are uncomfortable sending your child(ren) to school tomorrow, please feel free to keep them home," reads the letter. 

No arrests have yet been made and police are continuing to investigate.
