Earth Week in Summerland will feature a wide variety of events and activities.
The week runs from April 22 to 27 and the theme for 2025 is You Can Make A Difference. Previous themes have included Planet vs Plastics, Invest in Our Planet and Remedy Together.
Organizers say this year they are highlighting ways that residents and citizens can make small or big changes to their lifestyle choices through food, finance, your home and many others to support environmental sustainability.
Events in Summerland begin on April 19 and continue until April 27.
Saturday, April 19
District of Summerland Recycle Depot, Summerland Arena, 9920 Jubilee Rd. E., 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items including light bulbs and batteries, E-waste, televisions and small appliances, paper and cardboard, plastic, metal and paper packaging, flexible plastics, rigid foam packages and glass jars and bottles are all accepted.
Tuesday, April 22
Virtual community workshop with Earth Day Canada, 4 to 5:30 p.m. A link for this event will be shared on the municipal website two weeks before the date.
The workshop will be on making one香蕉视频直播檚 home eco-friendly, whether as tenants or homeowners.
Thursday, April 24
Virtual community workshop with Earth Day Canada, 4 to 5:30 p.m. A link for this event will be shared on the municipal website two weeks before the date.
This workshop is on eating sustainably and offers an introduction to sustainable eating as well as solutions to help people make informed choices.
Friday, April 25
Magical Forest Fairy Craft at the Summerland branch of the Okanagan Regional Library, 3 to 4 p.m. Registration is required.
Participants will create their own eco-friendly fairy using natural and recycled materials. All supplies will be provided.
Saturday, April 26
Workshop on heat pump installation, 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Penticton Public Library, 785 Main St., Penticton.
This event is being held in partnership with First Things First Okanagan, The City of Penticton, Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen and Green Drinks Penticton.
Sunday, April 27
19th Annual Planting Event in Memorial Park, 9999 Wharton St. in Summerland, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society and the Summerland Environmental Science Group are coordinating this event, with support from the municipality.
Native species of trees, shrubs and grasses will be planted along the hillside behind the playground. Gloves and watering cans will be provided.
The Earth Week Fair will also be held at this event, with local vendors including farmers, businesses and organizations.
