PHOTOS: Witches paddle into spooky season at Kal Beach in Coldstream

Close to 100 paddleboarders donned witch outfits and hit the lake Saturday

It was a beautiful day for a paddle on Kalamalka Lake in Coldstream Saturday, Oct. 12, when dozens of pointy hats could be seen on the water for an annual celebration of spooky season.

Close to 100 people dressed as witches and other Halloween costumes hit the water around noon Saturday for the Witches and Warlocks paddle, organized by Ashley Reich, who started the tradition on Kal Lake last year.

People not only decked themselves out in spooky outfits; many also decorated their paddleboards and kayaks for the friendly paddle.

The event was for any and all paddleboarders, from beginner to advanced.

"We are just here for a good time," Reich said on the Facebook event page that garnered interest from more than 750 people. "Just prepare yourself for a possible cold plunge if you're unsteady."

Shortly after noon, it would seem all of the witches on the lake had their bearings; not one could be seen taking an inadvertent cold plunge after losing their balance, surely thanks to the pleasantly calm waters on a sunny fall day.
