PHOTOS: Vernon stoked with new bike park

The park, complete with pump track, jumps and trails for all ages and abilities, opened earlier this summer but was fully celebrated Thursday

The stoke was high as riders celebrated the completion of Vernon's Becker Bike Park Thursday, Sept. 12.

The park, complete with pump track, jumps and trails for all ages and abilities, opened earlier this summer but was fully celebrated at Thursday's event.

Dignitaries joined the North Okanagan Cycling Society (NOCS), which built the park alongside contractors, behind the Vernon Curling Club.

"This is what Vernon needed, a little jump scene," pro rider Tom Van Steenbergen commented as he and other local professionals put on a demonstration at the big jump track.

While the pros delighted in showing off their tricks, little Trail Ninja riders also tested their skills on the various obstacles in the park.

Riders of all ages came out to test the tracks and celebrate the new addition right in town.

"I enjoy it and my young boys enjoy it," said Chris Crawford, NOCS president.

NOCS has already established a number of cycling trails in the region, adding to Vernon's status as the Trails Capital of B.C.

Vernon mayor Victor Cumming and MLA Harwinder Sandhu delighted in seeing the new addition which will only further offerings to locals and tourists.

A community barbecue wrapped up the event, complete with burgers, bicycle cookies and prizes.
