Penticton Indian Band advises public to avoid Trout Creek Area after landslide

A landslide happened in the Trout Creek area on Friday, April 11 and the public is being asked to avoid the area.

The public is being advised to avoid the Trout Creek area after a landslide took place near Summerland Golf and Country Club on Friday, April 11, the Penticton Indian Band (PIB) Emergency Management Department has stated.

"Due to unstable terrain and significant safety risks, we strongly urge all community members and the general public to avoid this area," said PIB in a press release sent out on Saturday, April 12. "Geotechnical assessments have confirmed that the risk of additional landslides remains high, along with the potential for downstream flooding."

The PIB Emergency Operations Centre, the RDOS, District of Summerland, Okanagan Nation Alliance and Ministry of Transportation, and other agencies will continue to monitor the situation.
