A Lumby woman is expected plead guilty later this month for a charge related to a child's death more than four years ago.

Keisha Marie McCrea was charged in October 2023 with one count of failure to provide the necessities of life after the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit investigated the circumstances surrounding the death of a child in April 2020.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officers were called to assist paramedics in the Lumby area on April 4. The child was flown to Kelowna by air ambulance that evening and pronounced deceased early the following morning.

McCrea is set to appear in Vernon court on Nov. 21, when she is expected to enter a guilty plea, according to court records.

McCrea, born in 1994, was released from custody on Oct. 30, 2023.

Brian William Chciuk was originally charged with failure to provide the necessities of life along with McCrea. However, on Oct. 8, 2024, the Crown stayed the charge against Chciuk, according to the BC Prosecution Service.
