HAZMAT team called in to deal with suspicious package

A container filled with a mystery liquid prompted dispatch of a HAZMAT team this weekend.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. March 26, Kelowna Fire dispatch received a call from RCMP requesting assistance with an unknown package that was found in the ATM vestibule of the Bank of Montreal on Dilworth Drive.

The package was not giving of a heat signature after using a thermal imaging camera.

A minor Hazmat response was decided on which involved two members donning A level suits and containing the package and then over packing the item in a plastic containment barrel.

The Ministry of Environment was called to arrange disposal of the package.

Kelowna Fire Dept. remained on scene until the package was removed.
