Funds roll in to honour student's memory

To honour him and work towards helping others battling depression, the Matthew Yip Memorial Fund at UBC Okanagan was created.

As floods your social media feed and mental health and wellness is in focus, a local man is being remembered and honoured after he lost his battle with mental illness.

Kelowna's Matthew Yip was a top student in the UBC Okanagan Faculty of Engineering class, graduating in 2015. He loved adventure, he loved his friends and family and he loved his fiancee.

Yip was described as a man who gave everything his all.

Behind all that though, perhaps unknown to those that did not know him well, Yip struggled with depression.

Yip took his own life earlier this year at the age of 23.

To honour his memory and work towards helping others battling depression, the Matthew Yip Memorial Fund at UBC Okanagan was created.

More than $9,000 has been raised in the first few weeks.
