Springfield Road is closed westbound after a four-vehicle crash near Barlee Road backed up traffic in both directions.
The exact cause of the chain-reaction crash is still under investigation, but it is believed several cars were stopped when a car behind the group crashed in to the rest.
At least one person was taken to hospital.
Westbound traffic is being rerouted via Ambrosi Road.
