A young family lost everything to a house fire Oct. 5.

A young Vernon family didn't even have time to put shoes on as they fled an early-morning fire in their home Saturday.

Vernon firefighters were called to the south Vernon duplex at around 2:20 a.m. Oct. 5, located in the 2000 block of 39th Street.

"Upon arrival, crews found the fire primarily concentrated at the back of the two-story building, with flames extending into the attic," said Josh Winquist, City of Vernon media relations officer. "Firefighters acted swiftly to control the fire, but the building sustained heavy damage."

While no one was injured, the occupants got out with only the clothes on their back.

Now help is being sought for the couple and their young daughter.

Amy Leboe has started at GoFundMe for the family (her children) who "have nothing, not even their wallets or phones." They also did not have insurance.

Leboe said the biggest thing is affording to pay for the hotel, as she says victim services will only help for three days.

"They are at a complete loss and are in absolute shock right now," said Leboe on the fundraising page at .
