Residents closest to Twin Lakes wildfire near Penticton get to go home

Regional district rescinds orders for the Grand Oro area

An evacuation order affecting residents near the Upper Park Rill wildfire in Twin Lakes has been lifted.

The order, issued on Frdiay, Aug. 18, by the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) has been rescinded as of Aug. 24.

The rescind is in effect for the following areas:

  • Electoral Area C including Yellowbrick Road, Orofino Creek Road, Ripley Lake and Madden Lake
  • Electoral Area I including Grand Oro and Grand Oro Branch Road
  • Electoral Area G including on Grand Oro Road

The RDOS noted an evacuation alert may still need to be issued and if it is, the evacuation order process will begin again.

Favourable weather conditions have caused low fire activity in recent days. Because of this, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) has been rescinded the order. Evacuation alerts remain and residents must be ready to leave at a momentÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s notice. An interactive map showing current evacuation orders and alerts is available at emergency.rdos.bc.ca.

On Thursday, the fire received continued aviation support and crews executed small hand ignitions to reinforce guards and help with terrain. Wildfire crews also continue to use heavy machinery to battle the fire. Protection crews also remain on the scene for structures in the areas.

The size of the blaze remains at 1,830 hectares.

The regional district recommends residents ensure their vehicleÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s gas tank is full and they bring a minimum of three daysÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™ worth of food and essential supplies as local stores may not have adequate stock yet. It is also recommended to bring in all medications and pet supplies needed.
