There has been a presumptive positive detection of whirling disease in Emerald Lake, Yoho National Park, according to the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS).

The society is highly concerned about the detection of Whirling Disease. In a press release, CSISS noted that there will be an immediate collaboration between Parks Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to confirm the presence of Whirling Disease in Yoho National Park as well as suspected cases in the Kicking Horse River, Wapta Lake, Finn Creek and Monarch Creek.

Parks Canada has made the decision to temporarily close all water-bodies in Yoho and Kootenay National Park until March 2024.

CSISS describes whirling disease as a devastating condition brought about by a microscopic parasite that primarily targets trout and salmon. Fish who are infected with the disease display a distinctive and distressing 香蕉视频直播渨hirling香蕉视频直播 swimming pattern, which often leads to premature mortality.
