City workers are getting some extra pay for the next three years.
The City of Vernon and members of CUPE Local 626 have ratified a collective agreement for the period of Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2026.
The agreement provides for incremental wage increases of three per cent per year over its three-year term, along with a four per cent market adjustment in 2024. It also includes some adjustments and housekeeping updates.

The city's 2024 amended budget shows $46 million in salaries, wages and benefits paid with $48 million proposed for 2025.
There are a number of departments within the city, including city administration, which see a 9.6 per cent increase in salaries, wages and benefits from 2024 to 2025.
Council, which includes one mayor and six councillors, are budgeted for a decrease in salaries, wages and benefits from 2024 to 2025 from the total of $473,817 this year to $472,489 next year.
Salaries, wages and benefits for the Active Living Centre are budgeted at $384,950 in 2025 when $45 million will be spent on the project.
Fire fighting salaries, wages and benefits account for $6.5 million in the 2024 budget. That is expected to raise 15.47 per cent to $7.5 million in 2025. That doesn't include fire administration, emergency management or fire prevention positions.
