Caution urged on Okanagan roads

Winter driving warnings are in full swing as accidents and road closures plague B.C.'s highways.

In the North Okanagan, east of Lumby, two accidents took place on Highway 6 Thursday late afternoon.

"Roads are pretty bad," said Lumby Fire Chief Tony Clayton.

No injuries were reported from the Monashee Pass accidents, the first of which was by the Keefer Lake Junction. Another rollover took place between Cherryville and Lumby.

Over on Highway 1, a took place 15 kilometres west of Salmon Arm Friday morning, reducing traffic to single-alternating lanes.

Drivers travelling along Highway 1 are cautioned to watch for black ice and slushy sections from Sicamous to Craigellachie.

Meanwhile the TransCanada Highway east of Revelstoke will be closed in both directions from noon until 4 p.m. for avalanche control on Friday, Dec. 30. It will also be closed in both directions two km east of Golden to 17 km East of Golden for avalanche control from noon to 2 p.m. Mountain Time on Friday.

Thursday evening due to heavy snowfall. Several additional accidents on the Coquihalla caused lane closures and warnings throughout the evening and into the morning.
