Calcite Creek wildfire near Princeton swells to over 2,040 hectares

The Calcite Creek wildfire south of Princeton has led to evacuation alerts for residents in Eastgate and nearby communities on July 18.

The Calcite Creek Wildfire south of Princeton has continued to grow and is now 2,041 hectares. 

Evacuation alerts remain in place for residents of East Gate, Placer Lake and the Pasayten Area. 

The wildfire was first reported on July 18. On that day, evacuation alerts were issued after the fire grew past 25 hectares in size. 

Evacuation alerts are not orders to leave the area, but residents are advised to prepare to vacate their property with little notice due to changing conditions. 

No orders have been made to evacuate yet. 

The fire has ground crews from BC Wildfire Service responding, alongside a heavy equipment team, 

Structure protection crews have also been deployed and have prepared a protection plan for nearby communities.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.
