UPDATE 9 a.m.
Highway 1 remains closed in both directions five kilometres east of Canoe after a mudslide Monday evening.
An estimated time of opening is still unavailable as an assessment in progress.
Another update from highway crews is expected at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Reports online indicate it was raining heavily in the area at the time of the slide. Several cars can seen in the photo above on either side of the mudslide.
Motorists are being encouraged to take Highway 97A and Highway 97B as an alternative route.

Update: 6:15 a.m. Tuesday April 18
The Trans-Canada Highway between Salmon Arm and Sicamous remains closed in both directions five kilometres east of Canoe because of a mudslide.
The estimated time of opening is currently unavailable, and a Ministry of Transportation assessment is in progress.
The alternate route is Highway 97B and Highway 97A.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Update: 11:40 p.m. April 17
Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Sicamous remains closed, possibly until late Tuesday morning.
Drive BC reports no estimate available when road will reopen as assessments of the mudslide and roadway are ongoing.
However, Shuswap Scanner states the highway maintenance contractor estimates it could be late morning Tuesday before the highway is open in order for a geotechnician to assess the area.
More information as it becomes available.
In the meantime, motorists are being encouraged to take Highway 97A and Highway 97B.

A mudslide has shut down Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Sicamous.
The slide at about 8:30 p.m. shut the highway in both directions about eight kilometres east of the Canoe mill.
Emergency crews are on scene and a local tow company is helping remove stuck vehicles.
