Wildfire burns out of control in Kelowna more evacuations issued

UPDATE: 11:13 p.m.

An evacuation alert is now in place for the Glenmore Highlands, including Valley Road to Highway 97.

The most recent alert extends from parts of Shanks Road, down west of Highway 97 and over to Valley Road to Glenmore Road.

This area includes the Kelowna Airport Business Park, Pier Mac Way and Airport Way.

As well Scenic Road is also on alert.

The fire burning in the Glenmore and Wilden area of Kelowna is now an estimated 580 hectares and called the Walroy Lake blaze.

BC Wildfire updated the size of the blaze Friday night just before 10 p.m.

Due to wildfire activity, Knox Mountain Park and Dilworth Mountain Park are closed to the public immediately.

A mutual aid call has been requested by Kelowna Fire Department to assist with a large interface fire.

The call has been sent out to the West Kelowna, Lake Country, Ellison, Joe Riche, Peachland, Wilson香蕉视频直播檚 Landing, and North Westside fire departments to send all personnel and equipment available.

KFD has been battling a wildfire in the Clifton/McKinley areas after embers from the McDougall Creek wildfire ignited a blaze in Kelowna last night.

Emergency exits have been opened at Capistrano and Quail Ridge Drive to assist with evacuations.
