A writer who grew up in Summerland has compiled a book of stories about the community as it was in the 20th century.

A Summerland Stories Scrapbook: Memories and Memorabilia 1930s-1960s, by Norma Hill, has stories from her memories as well as incidents from family photos, letters and autobiographical material from her mother香蕉视频直播檚 childhood.

Hill has fond memories of her time growing up in Summerland and the optimism of the period.

Most of the stories are happy and upbeat reflections of growing up in a small town.

Hill has deep roots in Summerland. She was born in the community, as was her mother. Shortly after she was born, her parents, both teachers, moved to Haida Gwaii and later to Revelstoke before returning to Summerland.

Today, Hill lives in Penticton and has noticed the changes that have occurred in Summerland over the years. 

She began compiling some of the stories in 2010. She has also shared some of her memories on the Summerland Museum香蕉视频直播檚 Facebook page and has written about Summerland's history for the Okanagan Archive Trust Society, based in Penticton.

In the fall, after receiving requests for her stories, she began compiling her stories into a book. The result is a self-published book of warm memories.

Hill will hold a book launch event on May 4 at 6 p.m. at St. Stephen Anglican Church, 9311 Prairie Valley Rd., Summerland.

The book launch event will have a slide show of photos from Summerland香蕉视频直播檚 past. The event will also have foods from some family recipes which were popular during the time.
