Perhaps he was just trying to beat the heat and look for a place to cool down when a bear broke into a home on CP Hill in Revelstoke.
The bear entered the home on July 10 and according to a Facebook post by Revelstoke Bear Aware conservation officers were called to the residence and a warning was put out to those in the neighbourhood to, "keep their ground-level windows and doors closed for the remainder of the day."
Maggie Spizzirri, community coordinator of Revelstoke Bear Aware, said that when there is an incident such as a bear breaking into a home, someone usually calls the organization to help quickly awareness about the situation.
Spizzirri also explained that when a bear breaks into a home it is often linked to the bear having access to garbage over a prolonged period of time.
"It's an unfortunate circumstance if a bear is breaking into a house, that means that the bear has had access to garbage over and over again," said Spizzirri.
Although Spizzirri did not speak to the owner of the house, she did say that everyone was okay.
She added that the most important thing that people do to protect themselves and the bears is to make sure their garbage is secure. She emphasized that this does not mean secured by a fence, or under a deck as bears are excellent climbers.
Spizzirri also mentioned that Bear Aware has been working closely with the City of Revelstoke to provide residents with bear-resistant garbage and compost bins in 2025.
