BC Highway Patrol has declared that February is the time for drivers to refocus on road safety and flashing lights.
Throughout the month of February, BC Highway Patrol is holding a campaign reminding drivers you to use the 'Slow Down, Move Over 70/40 rule.'
The rule means that in the presence of flashing lights drivers must slow to either 70 km/h if the posted speed limit is higher than 80km/h, or 40km/h if the limit is slower than 80km/h.
Section 47.02 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations requires all drivers to reduce their speed and move into the furthest lane of traffic away from stopped vehicles with flashing red, blue, or yellow lights. Failing to do so may result in a fine of $173.
Drivers must slow down and move over when police vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, construction vehicles or tow trucks, have their lights on.
"Some drivers get frustrated when traffic slows for flashing lights, but it香蕉视频直播檚 a law that helps protect first responders and roadside workers," says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
