Another mudslide near Sicamous

Another mudslide near Sicamous is causing problems for travellers on Highway 1.

The road is currently reduced to single alternating lanes.

The incident was first reported about 1:30 p.m. about 8 kilometres west of Sicamous.

DriveBC is estimated the road to fully open for 4 p.m.

Rocks are also being reported falling on Highway 1 from Sorrento to 11 km west of Sicamous, as well as from 11 km west of Sicamous to Craigellachie.

Motorists are warned of falling rock on Highway 1, 21 km west of Revelstoke and from 5 km east of Golden.

Earlier this week a mudslide forced the closure of for 25 hours.

Roughly 35 cubic metres of debris rolled down the steep slope on the east side of the road and into the concrete catchment wall below.

There is a history of debris slides at that section of highway, so a helicopter was used in the assessment to determine if any activity upland might cause further complications.

Then another mudslide came down on the near Sicamous early Thursday morning.

An engineer is being brought in to do a geotechnical survey of the mudslide by helicopter, and CP is currently planning to have the rail line back on operation by midday today.
