Smoke continues to linger in the Okanagan and Shuswap, on Tuesday.

Tuesday the Air Quality Health Index reached a seven for the North, South and Central Okanagan, up from a two on Monday.

The air quality also remains at a seven for Kamloops.

A special air quality statement has been issued for the Okanagan and now also includes the Shuswap.

According to Environment Canada, smoke concentrations will vary widely as winds, fire behaviour and temperatures change.

The bulletin is expected to remain in effect until further notice.

Residents in the area may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
