The West Kelowna Warriors earned their first win of the season on Friday, Sept. 27, beating Vernon 2-1.

The West Kelowna Warriors got in the win column twice last weekend with wins over the Vernon Vipers.

In the first home-and-home series between the North and Central Okanagan teams, the Warriors won 2-1 on Friday night (Oct. 27) in West Kelowna and 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night (Sept. 28) in Vernon.

Before puck drop in the Warriors home opener on Friday night, the team named Landen Hilditch captain.

On the ice, Carter Oakenfold and Jack Pridham scored the team's goals while goaltender Ayo Ogini made 21 saves in the BCHL debut to earn his first career win.

The following night, Dylan Krayer scored two first period goals to put the Warriors up early. Vernon scored late in the frame to cut the deficit in half.

Callum Hughes' regained the Warriors' two-goal lead in the second period when he scored his second goal of the season. But again, Vernon scored late to make it 3-2. In the third period, the Vipers scored to tie the game and force overtime.

But in the extra frame, Oakenfold played hero for West Kelowna, scoring 5:58 into the period, giving the Warriors the 4-3 win. Dawson Labre made 30 saves in the win. After the weekend, the Warriors are 2-1-1 on the year, while Vernon is 0-3.

The Warriors have another home-and-home series ahead of them, as they play the Trail Smoke Eaters in Trail on Friday, Oct. 4 and then welcome them to Royal LePage Place on Saturday night. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. both nights.

Saturday is the third annual Ladies Night at the Warriors game, where wine is 50 per cent off and the DJ will be playing Shania Twain and Taylor Swift.
