Wildfire prevention work to begin in Kelowna Parks

Work to reduce the wildfire risk in Knox Mountain and Dilworth Mountain parks is being done this month.

City of Kelowna urban forestry staff and BC Wildfire Service crews will undertake wildfire fuel mitigation work across walking trails.
 
The work begins Sept. 16 and will require day-time trail closures.

Dilworth Mountain Park:

Work will occur around the water reservoir at the summit of Dilworth Mountain Park but may expand to areas around Selkirk Drive. Trail closures in this area may occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

Knox Mountain Park:

Work includes falling dangerous trees and removal of hazardous fuel accumulation. Crews will be working Sept. 16 - 20 and Sept. 23 - 27 impacting the Pine Loop and Shale Trails. Day-time trail closures are expected between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Craig noted the projects are examples of FireSmart initiatives.
