Work to help reduce the risk of wildfire in Knox Mountain and Dilworth Mountain parks will continue this spring. 

City of Kelowna Urban Forestry staff and contractors will remove fuels such as branches and conifer needles. Some materials will be removed, with others burned when weather conditions permit.

Fire mitigation activities:
 

• Knox Mountain Park: Work is occurring now and will continue into the spring, mostly west of Magic Estates, with localized trail closures between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. 
• Dilworth Mountain Park: Work is scheduled to resume in March, primarily on the north slopes, north of Selkirk Drive. Trail closures in this area may occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Craig notes that fuel mitigation projects are examples of FireSmartTM initiatives that help protect against the impact of wildfire and climate change.
