Traffic delayed on the west side of Okanagan Lake, near Summerland.

The final stages of wildfire control on a blaze that sparked between Summerland and Peachland on July 17, is causing delays for commuters on July 18.

The fire, which is believed to be human caused, originated directly beside Highway 97, on the west side of Okanagan Lake. The blaze sparked at approximately 9 a.m. on July 17 and produced smoke that was visible from across the lake.

Although the fire is now considered to be 'under control' by the BC Wildfire Service, crews remain on-scene to complete the final stages of mop-up.

As crews continue to work to ensure the blaze has been completely extinguished, travel along the 13km stretch of highway has been reduced to single lane, alternating traffic between Callan Road and Rendrew Road.

Major delays are expected and drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route when possible.
