Still time for West Kelowna property owners to apply for FireSmart grant

Just nine homeowners applied for the grant according to 2024 Q3 statistics presented to council

A low number of FireSmart grant applications in the community had West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom asking questions at council香蕉视频直播檚 Oct. 22 meeting.

Just nine homeowners have applied for the grant.

香蕉视频直播淚 thought there would be many more applicants, particularly after our experience with the McDougall Creek wildfire last year,香蕉视频直播 Milsom said.

Fire Chief Jason Brolund noted it is FireSmart season right now and the department is pushing hard to complete home assessments.

香蕉视频直播淥ur staff, in the third quarter, have completed 60 home assessments and working overtime to complete more,香蕉视频直播 he added.

Home assessments are a pre-requisite to receiving a grant which is funded by the province through the city.
